TyDi – The Journey

There is something fascinating, when you look back at an amazing artist’s releases, and you find something special. Several years ago, TyDi collaborated with various talents from around the world. Finding his sound, connecting with creative hearts that wanted to do the same, sharing their hopes, dreams, and wishes through their creativity. From soulful, to harmonic, driven, beats, melodic, and expressive, music is an artform, where a producer and songwriters are its paintbrush.

Awhile back I wrote a review for Collide, which was the second part of a series. “Shooting Stars,” released in 2011, was the first part of the saga. I thought I would look back on these amazing albums once more, reconnecting with what made TyDi, and various artists he had created something with, special.

“Shooting Stars”
Release date: 2011
Label: Armada

This eighteen track release explored different emotions: memories, feelings, and the ups and downs of life itself. Within each song, melodic, or with vocals, it goes beyond a few minutes. It expands its sound design, telling a story of the artists that co-produced each track involved within the album. The range, scope, and expansion of these eighteen songs goes another level, as each one connects to each other. Finding a sound that explores feelings of loss, growth, change, creativity, and a flow from within.

My favorites are the songs TyDi collaborated on with Tania Zygar. They are a different vibe from the rest of the album, taking on a more personal deep-dive, rather than holding everything inside. Eventually bursting, rising to the surface, with words you never meant to say, but held back on because that is not who you were, or are. But every song within this album does analyze deep with oneself, our strengths, weaknesses, the fight we have inside, or with the person on the other side of the mirror.

In this second part of the journey, TyDi along with Christopher Tin explores a more diverse sound. Combining their sound styles together, it takes on more of a trance opera, a vast scope within harmony, vocals, and energy. Capturing the essence of who we are as humans, the connections, and break-ups that shape our heart, mind and soul.

A spiritual sequel, but in a sense of growth, pain, acceptance, striving to be better, but also grounded, yet facing challenges when you feel alone, or even going dark. The title is more than a description of the album, but rather of everything happening all at once. It is also about everything that makes us who we are, and what we perceive on the outside – who we try to be, even when we fall and get back up again.

Why revisit? Let’s just say, there is something new in store.
