To make up for huge payouts it has to make to big-box major record labels, the streaming giant hopes to increase revenue through offering a new service, inviting musicians and record labels to pay them to extend their reach – notifying their fans & followers each time they have a new release debuting on Spotify.
Spotify calls it a “two-sided marketplace,” and touts that it is a highly effective way for labels to expand their artists reach to their fans, increasing sales and engagement.
SoundCloud also just launched a similar feature, available on their mobile app.
