ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: liberty

liberty’s biography:

The DJ name “Liberty” originates not from his DJ style but from his personal manifesto aimed at providing a sense of liberation from the everyday for those enjoying the club scene. He hails from the rich natural surroundings of Niigata, where he spent his seasons immersed in the sea, rivers, mountains, and countryside, cultivating sensitivity and rustic values unique to rural areas.

Since starting DJ activities in 2009, he has encountered various people and begun absorbing a wide range of music in Tokyo’s club scene. Known for his distinctive selection style, he layers multiple musical experiences and considers the space and time of his sets, aiming to touch the core of the audience’s lives. While primarily selecting dance music genres like House, Techno, and electronica, he always explores music that can be enjoyed beyond the dance floor.

After taking a temporary hiatus in 2018 to deliberately limit his exposure to music and focus on other experiences to reset his familiarity with it, he resumed activities in 2023, incorporating feedback from the scenes experienced during his break to enhance his expressive abilities.

Since resuming activity, he has energetically launched his own party “torch” and introduced USB as a new approach alongside his traditional vinyl-based style, flexibly utilizing the advantages of both formats to provide diverse music experiences.

DJネームの「Liberty」の由来は、彼のDJスタイルではなく、クラブシーンを楽しむ人々に向けた、日常からの解放を感じさせるという彼独自の信念に基づいています。彼は新潟の豊かな自然に育まれ、海や川、山などの自然環境の中で春夏秋冬を過ごし、感受性や地方ならではの素朴な価値観を培いました。

2009年にDJ活動を開始して以来、東京のクラブシーンで様々な人々と出会い、多彩な音楽を吸収し始めました。彼の選曲の特徴は、経験した音楽体験を複数のレイヤーで重ね、選曲する空間や時間を考慮し、オーディエンスの人生の核心に触れていくイメージが強いことです。彼はHouse、Techno、electronicaなどのダンスミュージックを主体に選曲しながらも、ダンスフロア以外でも楽しめる音楽を常に模索しています。

2018年に一時的な活動休止を経て、音楽に対する慣れをなくし、他の感情に焦点を当てるために意識的に音楽を制限しました。2023年に再び活動を再開し、休止期間に体験した情景も音楽にフィードバックし、表現力の向上につながりました。

活動再開後は、自身が主催するパーティー「torch」を立ち上げ、精力的に活動しています。レコード主体のスタイルに加え、新しいアプローチとしてUSBも導入し、レコードとUSBの利点を柔軟に活かして、多彩な音楽体験を提供しています。
