Many years ago, this amazing song first graced our ears, and hearts. It was melodic buildup, then release, all within one song. TyDi is well known for creating songs that have a story within the lyrics, and the melody expands. As emotions in constant motion, changing, shifting, finding ground if there is any. All the while, Tania Zygar’s beautiful vocals glide throughout, delivering a silky, and smooth performance. Also changing in tone, layers, and having a conflict, finding balance, and a resolution. “Vanilla” was one of those songs that had a persona all its own.
Now this year has begun, TyDi and Tania have blessed us with a new interpretation of this classic tune. The melody still resonates, and Tania’s vocals serenade as they did once before. But now with another layer in the mix. “Vanilla 2025” takes on a hybrid style, a new version that still keeps that energy from the original, but evolving into something different. In the mid section, it retains that calming few notes, then the vocals echo through and reverb into waves. Then it flows back, like waves crashing in the ocean, in a constant flux of force and movement.
When I think about past TyDi releases, this one is an absolute favorite of mine. Because it grows with you, from the original mix, and with this new rendition. It shows, that a song can be masterwork, even retouched, it can feel new again
