CREATOR STORIES: Skyhunter

Skyhunter - Electrofans Creator Stories

In this special interview, we caught up with Polish producer Skyhunter on the making of his debut full-length album, “The Courage” – out June 3, 2026 on Summer Melody.

Tell us about yourself, your musical background, and your “creative journey as an artist” so far!

My name’s Patryk, I’m a 30 year old music producer from Poland. I’ve been making music since 2011 and I started my Skyhunter alias in May 2016. My musical background is quite modest, I learned to play piano by myself (awith a little help from my dad) when I was 14-15 years old. As far as I remember, I always loved listening to any music, basically everything that was on the radio and TV in my childhood and my teenage years. Because of that I discovered dance and electronic music in early 2000 and I started to be a fan of electronic music in 2010. In 2011 I started to make music on FL Studio, as I was very keen to know how the music was being made. Since 2014 I’ve been using Ableton Live. I went through a kaleidoscope of genres along my creative journey as a music producer. I’ve done dance music, Big Room, Swedish House and while starting my Skyhunter moniker I started making Melodic Progressive House music. So far I’ve also done Progressive House, Progressive Trance, Ambient, Downtempo, Breakbeat, House, Organic House, Deep House, Tech House and more Electronic tracks. I love Melodic Progressive House, but I didn’t want to limit myself with genres. I also wanted to expand my skills in making music.

Skyhunter
What do you think is unique about “the SKYHUNTER SOUND?”

What would I call the SKYHUNTER SOUND? To be honest, I never really thought about it, but if I could describe my sound, I would say it’s carefree, fun, full of positive and also less positive emotions. Definitely it’s sitting still in Progressive genre, I realized that along the way, when I was making a different genre, it always switched me back into Progressive House feel or I included something from Progressive House in my tracks in different genres, for example giving the track more speed with hi hats, shakers, building the sound and adding elements slowly along with the track… From a technical point of view, I use similar or the same chords from the DUNE 2 plugin, my go-to when it comes to virtual plugins. Not just chords, but also plucks, pads, bass sounds. I also love experimenting with new sounds, but I also realize that I’m creating music “my own way”, like it never really sounds like other people’s tracks (I guess).

When it comes to GENRE, how would you categorize the difference between: progressive house, melodic progressive, melodic house (or techno, deep house, deep progressive?

Nowadays the differences between particular genres are very much not visible, as there’s a lot of genre fusions. But if I could categorize the differences between those genres you asked me about, I would say it’s about the dynamic in tracks. Deep Progressive House it’s about building the tension with the sound opening along the way and beat, taking more speed with hi hats, shakers etc. Melodic Progressive House and Progressive House also apply to those “settings”. Melodic House and Deep House are more static with sound and beats, but they are more open with them, it’s more an “in your face” type of sound. The difference is also with the length of the tracks. Progressive House, Deep Progressive House and Melodic Progressive House tracks are long, as Melodic House and Deep House tracks are shorter than Progressive, Deep Progressive and Melodic Progressive House tracks.

How would you say the progressive house scene has changed from when you started producing music until now?

I haven’t been following Progressive House music scene since I started making music in 2011, but I started listening back in 2016 and it definitely changed by a lot. Progressive House is a very big umbrella for lots of sub-genres of Progressive House and there would be lots of explaining here on the technical side, when it comes to particular sub-genre. But if I could tell you about how it changed over the years in a bigger picture, the first thing that comes to my mind is that Progressive House music is more recognizable worldwide right now than it was, when I started making Progressive House music as Skyhunter in 2016. I think the pandemic period in 2020 might have been the catalyst for that, with lots of DJ live streams and more producers making “lighter” kinds of music and I think Progressive House fit very well in that unfortunate time for the world. Since then, for example, Trance DJ’s started including Progressive House tracks in their radio shows or DJ sets, more labels opened sublabels for Progressive House music, even those Trance producers started making more Progressive House(ish) music. I’m personally happy that this kind of music gets more and more recognition.

And, speaking of progressive house, or “melodic progressive house,” what role do you think COMMUNITY plays in the support or development of a kind of niche-scene like this?

The community plays a very important role, especially in Melodic Progressive House music. From my experience, people were always very happy for new music from Melodic Progressive House producers, there is a lot of gratitude and thankfulness in messages or comments on new releases. Even if this was living in a bubble, it’s always been a great time reading all those kind comments from fans and fellow Melodic Progressive House producers about the tracks. As I touched on the bubble topic, there wasn’t a really big group of Melodic Progressive House fans and maybe it was a more hermetic atmosphere inside, but I’m very fortunate to find myself in such a happy community. It also motivates me to create more music as well; it feels very good to have such a supportive community around you.

Skyhunter - The Courage [Summer Melody]

Your first-ever full-length artist album is ‘The Courage,’ releasing June 3. Tell us the story behind the album/why you wanted to create it, and some of the main messages you want it to convey to listeners.

Creating an artist album has been a dream of mine for a long time, when I started making music. The idea of an album was fascinating to me, I wanted to do it and a few years ago I decided to create an album. Tracks on the album have been created over the span of the last few years, you can find the differences between the tracks made a few years ago and tracks made last year for example. The album tracklist is not a coincidence, as the track titles tell a story of a relationship and particular stages of the relationship, good and bad moments, but it all has one thing in common: the courage, which gives a strength to survive in such moments. Hopefully everyone listening to this album could feel this journey.

Summer Melody

Why did you decide to go with Summer Melody as the label for your debut album?

Summer Melody has been one of the first labels that I signed my music with. I released many of my most popular tracks on the Summer Melody label. I’m very satisfied with working with myni8hte and Leonety over the years, our work together has always been professional and there was never a bad moment. That’s why I felt that the Summer Melody label was a perfect place for my debut album. It’s also a nice comeback to the label, as I was releasing less music on Summer Melody over the last 2-3 years. It also felt like it was the right time for my album at Summer Melody label.

QUESTION FOR THE LABEL (SUMMER MELODY): What did you like about Skyhunter and his sound, and “The Courage” (his debut album) in particular?

This is Felix, aka myni8hte, co-owner of Summer Melody! Patryk (aka Skyhunter) started his musical journey and releases in 2019, and we were glad to have him debut on the label, via our well-known (now ended) Summer Melodies compilation series, with ‘Miss You’ the year after. His progressive style with melodic elements leaves an important mark; as his sounds evolve, the prog style remains to be at the core for him.

Patryk continued in such a style and demonstrated it throughout his catalog on the label, including Moments I Won’t Forget (2020), Smile After Sadness (2021) from our 100th label release, Your Smile (2023) and his remix of Inon Bramy’s Tears Of Angels (2023), just to name a few. He has even ventured out into melodic breaks on our NuHouse sub-label, and continued his musical journey with ‘The Place I Called Home’ (2024) that seals the Artist Collection compilation of his music.

Patryk reached out to me back in October of last year, and said “Do you think it’s the right time to release an album on Summer Melody?”. And with the first listen through the tracks, I said, “just gone through the whole list, such a great one”. His album The Courage was already thought through and fully ready. We have exchanged ideas on the release format, and forwarded the whole album (and something related to that, coming soon) to Maxime (aka Cosmaks) for mixing advice and mastering.

The album ‘The Courage’ shares the same stylistic approach that Patryk has portrayed since the beginning, he also leans into some experimental takes such as ‘Tour de Jungle’ and ‘My Heart Calls You,’ as the former plays with tribal elements, whilst the latter incorporates acoustic drums and indie rock elements. And he starts with ‘Cloudless Days,’ a beatless ambient introduction to the whole journey, which he uses to draw out its melodic and atmospheric parts to be the centerpiece.

As a label, having Skyhunter provide his debut full-length album is an honour, and we are so glad to be a part of an era, where Patryk delivers a wonderful story. Quoting the written release description: “Puzzling various fragmented episodes from each track and forming a wider picture as a whole takes courage, as he delivers the stories of different moments, phases, dynamics, emotions and relationships into a 15-track journey – a journey through both positive and negative, challenges and mistakes, as well as self-discovery on our own courage.

The album also takes courage for Skyhunter as an artist and producer, as the works span over a few years to eventually pull the strings of completion and finishing, pouring his emotions into this full-length album”. We genuinely hope you enjoy Skyhunter and his magnificent album The Courage!
