Sun, golden beaches, great surf and club bangers! The Gold Coast in sunny Queensland, Australia, is home to artists the likes of Fisher, The Stafford Brothers, Little Fritter and Wongo just to name a few. Maybe there is something in the water down there because the Gold Coast just keeps delivering the goods with a new tech house release from musical whiz kid Sammy Smooth.
Sammy acquired his first controller at the tender age of 14 after taking inspiration from his DJ father, and the rest, as they say, is history. By 2020, he had signed his first record deal with Spanish house music label Suma Records, sharing ‘Ok Let’s Go’ and ‘Haunted House’ with the world. It was a massive leap for the unassuming high school student to become a signed electronic music producer.
When Sammy won the local dance music radio station Radio Metro‘s ‘Making Music Competition’ in 2022 with his track ‘Last Night’, his name was really put on the map. Not only was the track signed to Vicious Records, but it was also remixed by fellow Aussie and Melbourne tech house guru Needs No Sleep.
Now, at the ripe old, practically senior age of 18, Sammy Smooth has released his latest EP, ‘Tied Up’. This two-track EP, released under Sorta Kinda Music, is ready to heat up nightclub dancefloors, which, thankfully, Sammy can now legally attend. The EP features ‘Baby Lets Go‘, an energising tech house jam that really does make you want to get up and go, and the title track ‘Tied Up‘. ‘Tied Up’ bestows us with vibes reminiscent of Alex Gaudino feat. Crystal Waters 2007 hit ‘Destination Calabria’ with its groovy saxophone hook that paves the way for an earwormy female vocal.
Music really is Sammy Smooth’s life, as he now plans to study music at college in 2024 while he continues making, releasing and spinning tunes. Sammy Smooth is a natural talent and definitely one to keep on your musical radar!
