Setting new frontiers in bass music, Koven drops new EP, “Higher Ground (Part 2)”
The act describe themselves as a “cinematic bass duo,” and they clearly portray that image with their latest EP: the second chapter of “Higher Ground.” At 6 tracks, it is actually more like a mini-album. They kick things off with “You Wanted,” a rousing number that slowly unfolds: the perfect intro song to set the stage. From there, the energy and tempo build with “14th Cannon.” The bouncing beats will start to get your head bobbing and feet moving. This track combines an interesting array of vibes, tones, and sense of track development.
“Collecting Thoughts” is probably my favorite track from the EP. It features lovely vocals from Katie, and a classic, winning DnB beat that completely conjurs up a BBC Radio premiere. The soaring vocal lines work hand-in-hand together with the energetic, punching beats & bass, creating an infectiously uplifting tune.
Next up, we have Lions (VIP). It has a dramatic, cinematic intro, with the encouraging atmosphere indicative of its title.
Kairos joins on vocals with Katie for “Higher Ground,” an anthemic, totally “hands-in-the-air” number.
“Get Through” concludes the action nicely, with its reflective, touch-of-melancholy, nostalgic tones.
