TOP TEN ULTIMATE SECRETS for succeeding in the music business
You have to CREATE AND SHOW MOMENTUM
Look around, but – STAY IN YOUR LANE
MAKE YOURSELF DISCOVERABLE (if you really want to succeed). For your bio: write in a crystal-clear way to best describe a summary of yourself to a new audience (write your bio blurb copy for people who don’t already know who you are). Of course that also means highlighting/pinning your best content at the top of your page.
(At all times), BE & ACT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL. Objectivism / you have to make music/create content that people want to hear or consume. (And Whether you like it or not, you have to try to think of your work a bit more as a “commodity,” / how it fits into the broader scale in an economic senses). Keep in mind: this does NOT mean you have to “sell out,” or necessarily even become more commercial. It just means you have to think more in terms of: you have the “product,” and who will be your “consumer.” (Again, connecting with your audience/ “customers”)
DEVELOP A WINNING ATTITUDE or MINDSET (remember: chances are, no one is going to do it for you; if you don’t do it, who will? ) Create a “system of self-accountability.” ***BELIEVE THAT SUCCESS IS POSSIBLE!!***
Perhaps one of the biggest secrets of success I think (in music or any other field, for that matter) is- JUST FREAKING SHOWING UP EVERYDAY. Just don’t quit! (“Carrying on in the face of crickets”) Even if you only have 20 or maybe 200 followers, act like you have 20 million!!
**FIND YOUR PEOPLE/TRIBE** (both in terms of partners and top fans). And then CONNECT WITH THEM (*ENGAGEMENT). This is essential. And how would you go about this? —- Show your true identity – so you can not only engage better with your current fans, but also increase your chances of attracting the RIGHT FANS FOR YOU, as well as “new fans.”
REMEMBERING YOUR WHY (why you got started with music in the first place). This can help you carry on during the many (many!) times you will get down or discouraged along your journey. (and finding ways to re-inspire yourself, as often as you can)
Learning to DECREASE YOUR PERFECTIONISM (“Done is better than perfect!“). This can really get in the way/hold you back from getting a lot more work “out the door.” You already have extremely high standards, but just don’t go overboard! Accept your limitations and realize that it is simply impossible for you to do everything. Develop/cultivate patience.
ESTABLISH WHAT SUCCESS MEANS TO YOU (even if you maybe have to RE-define this to meet realistic expectations)
