“These Hopeful Machines” a retrospective

Where to begin.. I have been a fan of BT’s early works for years with Deep Dish. Plus his incredible sound design within the first Fast and the Furious film soundtrack. From ESCM, and beyond, it is always a unique journey of where he takes his listeners, and fans to next. No two albums are the same, they contain their own identity from beginning to end.

These Hopeful Machines was released eleven years ago (2010) It was one of the most surreal chapters in the artist’s life, and those whom he collaborated with along the way. Two discs (plus a limited edition set the following year 2011), filled with monumental songs, exploring different genres, stories, expressions, heartache, pain, forgiveness, lost in sound, to a moment of clarity, and beyond.

Being a music fan, this was a deep dive worth a listen. Each is a chapter in a book, to be read, understood, comprehended, and listened. It is an intimate conversation, a sense of self, wonder, dreams, thoughts, hopes, and the unexpected. It feels like you’re in the moment, like a scene from a movie, playing in time. Every emotional beat, moment of joy, or sadness, the feels on an extraordinary level never touched on before.

To have an outlet and write something like this. It gives me clarity on something so dear, so special to me. To share this amazing treasure, even its been said before by others. This is from me, how deep it digs in, into my heart, soul, and mind. I am thankful.

It is wild to think, its been so long. When an album was released, it still connects the instant you push play. The world fades away.
