A Joey transforms into a kangaroo. Kangaroos fight by kicking their opponents. Rabbits are also known for kicking, as are football players. What do all of these things have in common? Well, I’m glad you asked!
Before embarking on a career in music, Australian DJ and Producer Joey Daye was a professional Australian rules football player. After leaving the footy field, Daye released his first single in 2018, the tongue-in-cheek track titled ‘Coulda Been A Footballer.’

Fast-forward to today, and Joey Daye’s latest release, ‘Lost In A Dream’. ‘Lost In A Dream’ is a certifiable party track, a dancefloor ready Tech House banger with an earwormy vocal hook that will have you humming long after its last beat plays. The track’s foundation is built on a bassline that sets the stage for the choppy vocal drop that is both haunting and entrancing. Joey’s unique use of vocal samples, sped up and layered with a stutter effect, adds his distinctive flare.
This release is backed up with a hard-hitting remix package which includes Daye’s VIP Edit, Rabbits On Saturn’s ‘Drop the 96 Remix’ as well as a remix from drum & bass powerhouse Transforma. You might not know these names now, but once you take a listen to their impressive back catalogues, each showcasing their own very unique styles, you’ll wish you had heard of them sooner!

Originally from the UK, Rabbits On Saturn tears apart the norm by the addition of spacey textures and synths, turning the temperature down from main room hot, to back room cool. The cherry on top is a groovy little old skool chord pattern as he takes the listener back to ’96 for a final twist in the tale.
Maybe Daye coulda been a footballer, but he is definitely fast becoming a musical force to be reckoned with. His 2021 release ‘Everything You Need‘ was signed by Will Sparks’ CLUBWRK Records. Last year, Joey Daye further showcased his versatility with the Indigenous-infused ambient Progressive House track, ‘Yerra (Soar)’ which climbed to an impressive #28 on the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Club Charts.
