From the opening melody, a Krewella song takes you on a journey of beats and feels. In this new song, it delivers emotions with so much range, that feeling of losing someone, but also that emptiness, and darkness. That loss could be: trust, love, a broken heart, and so much more. Beyond a few words, the lyrics within this song, contain energy, heart, and soul. Plus, it bounces back and forth between the sister’s performance, like a kinetic pinball bouncing around after being pushed left and right, trying to find its center. The heart and soul of the track is inside of the lyrics, they are soulful, hurt, and mending, yet somehow freed, yet learning how to be.
“Without You” is one of those songs that has many layers, first it contains a super catchy melody and beat, plus the lyrics gel seamlessly with the vibe, all the while maintaining a force of inertia, love, and the human heart. On social media, they ask “how does this song make you feel?” To me, it is a song based on trying to figure things out, to find yourself once more, rising like a phoenix from the rubble born anew. The notion of another person, that would be a tether, a connection, that used to be, now no longer anymore. How does one truly heal from that loss in a relationship, or a friendship, or something more? It can be so many things to each individual, and their experiences, to find your identity after being a part of something special with someone else, and now you are on your own once again asking the question: Who am I?
Another thought came to mind, the bond these two talented artists, who also happen to be sisters, and they have created an awesome sound style, energy, and array of music for many years. Without You could be that question, of how to keep going if they ever thought of changing direction, or taking a break. Or it is possible, music brought them back together, and that creativity like a magnet, inseparable. Krewella is amazing, and love their entire music library past and present.
